Jenni Vartiainen

Jenni Vartiainen

Short Discography

En haluu kuolla tänä yönä in English is “I Don’t Wanna Die Tonight”. It is a single from her album Seili (Sea?).  It is written by Finnish rapper Mariska and composed by Jenni Vertiainen and Jukka Immonen. This song was released on February the 1st in 2010. En haluu kuolla tänä yönä had received an Emma award for song of the year. In 2010 had over 5,200 plays on radio and was the most played song on commercial Finnish radio stations in.

My interpretation of the meaning of the song

I think Jenni is trying to say let her live for that day or night without dying or without killing her mood sort of speak. “Just now the going has started to taste like life” She has having fun and enjoying her youth before she has to take life by the reigns and start to take responsibility like she says in the song by “sobering up”.

In the video of her song she is dancing and smiling. I think she is trying to portray the youthfulness and not wanting it to vanish just for that night, for that moment.

The Artist

Jenni was born in Kuopio Finland and is now 30 years old. She just had a new song come out which I was excited for. The song is called Junat ja naiset after her two year break from the new album called Terra. She was an ice skater her teenage years and also was in a band called Gimmel after winning The Finnish talent show Popstars in October 2002. She started her solo career in April 2007. She had success with her first album Ihmisten edessä, going gold in Finland. Vartiainen did really well with her second album Seili being ranked the 14th all-time best-sellers in Finland with the song En haluu kuolla tänä yönä. Vartiainen has great achievements with nine Emma Awards. With all this success she still stays humble and keeps a low-profile life.

Olen kesken en siis lainkaan valmis täältä poistumaan
Juuri kun on meno käynyt elämältä maistumaan
Mulla olis yksi toive, yksi pieni pyyntö vaan

Mä en haluu kuolla tänä yönä
Mä en haluu kuolla tänä yönä

Lupaan lukea raamatun ja raitistun
Jos saan aikaa se varmasti onnistuu
Muttei tänä yönä
Jäköön taakseni syntinen entinen
Pystyn muuttumaan vielä mä tiedän sen
Muttei tänä yönä

Annathan siis katsoo vielä miltä näyttää huominen
Niin mä teen mun parhaani et oisin hyvä ihminen
Tiedän että kuulet tämän pyyntöni mun rukouksen

Mä en haluu kuolla tänä yönä

I don’t want to die tonight

I’m afraid to close my eyes in case I can’t open them again
I’d stay there laying in the morning like before
And I couldn’t raise my arm or say a word

I don’t want to die tonight
I don’t want to die tonight

I’m unfinished so definitely not ready to leave here
Just now the going has started to taste like life
I just have one wish, one small request

I don’t want to die tonight
I don’t want to die tonight

I promise to read the Bible and I’ll become sober
If can start I’m sure I can do it
But not tonight
Let the sinful life be left behind me
I can still change, I know
But not tonight

So please let me see what tomorrow is like
And I will do my best to be a good person
I know you can hear this request, my prayer

I don’t want to die tonight

Flying Finn (Paavo Nurmi)

13.04.1897 – 2.10.1973

Paavo Johannes Nurmi was a Finnish Olympic middle and long-distance runner. He was also known as the “Flying Finn” and “The King of Runners”. He had won 9 gold medals and three silver medals from 1920 to 1928 in three Olympic Games. He was born in Turku, Finland on July 13 1897. He had watched Hannes Kolehmainen in 1912 put Finland on the map with his three gold medals in long distances running and decided that he would do the same for Finland. He had trained systematically and never trained without a stop watch. He had joined Turku Urheiluliitto and broke his first Finnish national record on May 29th 1920 with a distance of 3000 metres and the time of 8.36,2.

Mr. Nurmi had his first and only lost to Joseph Guillemot of France at the Antwerp 1920 games. After this he had broken world records in Stockholm in 1921 with 30.40,2 in 10 000 metres.

He held records in the track events:

  • The mile
  • 5000 metres
  • 10, 000 metres

"When you race against time, you don't have to sprint. Others can't hold the pace if it is steady and hard all through to the tape."
"Kun juoksee aikaa vastaan, ei tarvitse kiriä. Muut eivät kestä mukana vauhdissa, joka on tasaisen kovaa loppuun asti..."
 - Paavo Nurmi, principle

The 1924 Olympic Games in Paris was also very fruitful for the proud Finnish runner. He had won five gold medals in six days. The French sports paper called Miroir des Sports had wrote: “Paavo Nurmi goes beyond the limits of Humanity.” He also impressed the United States running 55 times there in 1925.

Slowly stepping out of his prime of breaking many records: He  participated in the 1928 Olympic games in Amsterdam and won a gold medal in 10 000 metres and silver in the 5 000 and the 3 000 metres steeplechase at the age of 31. He went on more foreign tours and broke records in London and Stockholm in 1929.

In 1932 the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He wanted to run but had a foot injury and suspended from accusations of his professionalism. He didn’t run in this race but said he would have won by five minutes. He could not race in any other foreign races because the official suspension and also because he was named as a professional. The Finnish Athletic Federation didn’t pay heed to the International Amateur athletic federation claims. He had raced in his own country and came out victorious in the “National Amateur”.

After racing Mr. Nurmi became a businessman and put his money in the stock market. He had 40 towns built in Helsinki by his company. He had taken breaks from Business responsibilities to train some of the Finnish runners from 1930’s to the 1940’s.

He had also raised funds for the war against the Soviet Union by going abroad to America with Taisto Mäki another Finnish runner. Paavo Nurmi and Hannes Kolehmainen had both lit the flame for the 1952 opening Olympic Games of Helsinki. They had gotten a standing ovation from the 70 000 present that day.

Mr. Nurmi was like any other Finnish man that I know and worked hard even after his recovery from Thrombosis in 1950 but still worked and had a research foundation for Coronary disease. He gave the foundation two building and a large sum of money.

Mr. Nurmi the great Finn had died in 1971 October 2nd. His state funeral had taken place in the Old Church of Helsinki and he was taken back to his home town in Turku and was buried in the Old Cemetery. He has an original statue from Wäinö Aaltonen a famous Finnish Sculptor which was ordered by the Finnish government in 1924. The original is now placed in front of the University of Jyväskylä. There are many copies made from the original.  One statue is in Turku and the other one is in front of the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki. Nurmi also has a status in Switzerland. He had his face on a ten mark note ordered by the Bank of Finland in 1987.

Personal Thoughts

I had first heard of Mr. Nurmi in 2012 watching the Olympic Games in Britain. They had mentioned his name and his great feats. I had asked my Finnish friend about him and she said “They don’t make them like him anymore.” I was really astonished by all his records and wanted to know more about him and other Finnish athletes like Hanna-Maria Seppälä.

To: Kim Hyoyeon ♥

♥ YAH! Hyoyeon-ah!, ♥

This blog text is made for you and dedicated to you, even though it has some Hwang Posts, It’s called LovingKimHyoyeon.

You seriously make me laugh. With you it’s constant so I feel very proud to be a HyoHunnie.

I know I shouldn’t get crazy on Youtube or other social sites that TRY to put you down but it’s because my heart aches when I read some of the non-sense about you.

I started being your fan from Gee. The hat was too lean to not like you and your sideburns charmed me.

I thought you were beautiful and you still are. I feel pleased that other people are starting to notice because you deserve the attention.

It’s funny how people do not recognize your talent. You are so talented and dedicated. It’s not easy making people laugh but you do it with just a smile. It’s not easy to do the dancing you do especially in those heels. You dance with ease and that is what I admire. You can also sing and better than the average person so I consider that amazing. You can dance like a goddess but when you get home you’re a troll. You are the best of both worlds.

You have many more talents and charms but it’s your heart I adore Hyoyeon.

I’m glad my eyes found you.

To Your Members:

You care so well for Seohyun like she is your blood sister. I think you make her stronger and come out of her strict shell. Plus, you love to be a unnie. Even your inner-self is a unnie.

You and Yoona are a perfect prankster team. I know she looks up to you and I’m sure they all do. I think you let Yoona be who she really is inside which is a Choding/Tomboy. Your jokes probably give her a break from all the busy hard schedules that the shallow world offers her for her face.

You and Sooyoung one of my favourites. I think you are more like yourself around her and tell her things that hurt you instead of the makneas telling you what hurt them. Sooyoung is like a big warm embrace that you can go to. I feel you talk the most comfortable with her and I know she is very fond of you from what she says and does.

You and Yuri. Yuri said she is the happiest dancing with you. I think you better her with the dancing. Competition is always good to grow. It looks like you would go to Yuri for affection without words since I always see you guys hugging with no conversation.

You and Tiffany LOL! My favourite. I feel like Tiffany needs you more than you need her. She always wants to dance and talk to you and you just nod your head or smile. You give her the satisfaction by dancing goofy with her. She admires you humour, so always make her laugh since her family is far away and you guys are the only ones she has.

You and Sunkyuuu~~  Okay, you guys are cute together. I think you let out your physically frustrations with Sunny. If you’re not punching her stomach you’re chocking her ass out on a ride. I think she helps you build and is supportive. Sunny said your fans value you more and are special she is right. Obviously we are not loud as Sooyoung’s screaming pterodactyl fan or Yoona’s fan but we will get louder, give us some time. Thanks Sunny for saying so, keep taking the violence.

You and Jessica, It think you were never afraid of Jessica She probably looked cold back then and I think that is why Jessica is fond of you. When I see your hugs it looks so meaningful. When PDnim came to your dorm you had your foot on Sica while she reads her book and she didn’t mind. You guys were the first roommates during debut period and growing together in your precious years. I think you guys give and take from each other. I know if you need to be a bad a$$ you can choose Jessica as your partner in crime.

You and Taeyeon. I think you guys are personal rivals, you do all the same things. I find you guys awkward and your moments rare but they are cute. LOL!, You guys wake up early, wake up the members, motherly/fatherly and in different ways leaders. You two are also unnies, obviouslyTaeyeon is the older one but you guys are all basically the same age.

Even though she probably wouldn’t ask for it but when she needs help leading, I think she would go to you. You pretty much can go to Sooyoung with her outgoing personality can round up the pack.

You are much needed in the group but I would follow you everywhere. I love you Kim Hyoyeon, not only for your dancing because the “Dancing Queen” doesn’t sum you up just a little title of the many you have.

No one is like you, so please continue entertaining me and the rest of the HyoHunnies(Sones).

A extraordinary Entertainer Kim Hyo Yeon

Happy Birthday/Saengil Chukha Hamnida/ 생일 축하합니다
